Career Coaching

I’m Sue Schlom

I’m a Recruiter, Career Coach, and Job Search Advisor

I’ve recruited for amazing companies like PepsiCo, Wrigley, and Seventh Generation. I’m still an active Recruiter, and I am familiar with the technology and processes that organizations use to recruit, screen, interview, and hire candidates.

My recruiting experience forms the basis of my one-on-one Career Coaching. I understand the recruiting process from the corporate perspective. I put that knowledge to use helping professionals in multiple industries launch, develop, and switch career paths.

I’ve also worked as a Career Advisor and Job Search Skills Instructor at the University of Vermont and Johns Hopkins University. I’ve helped undergraduate, graduate, and adult learners secure career-building jobs in their field.

My passion is working one-on-one to help job seekers to identify career paths, understand the new rules around targeted resumes, and sharpen their job search skills. That’s why I founded The Targeted Resume.

CAREER HISTORY

Yup, I’ve been there – from having no idea what to do with my degree, to struggling to climb the corporate ladder in a career I wasn’t passionate about, to surviving a layoff, and finally finding work I love helping others achieve their career goals.

After I graduated from Clark University in Worcester, MA I worked in Boston for a few years doing customer service for a financial services company.  I quickly realized how much I didn’t know about business and work, so I applied to grad school and was accepted into the MBA program at the University of Michigan.  GO BLUE!

Michigan was a amazing experience.  I credit the school for giving me great training on job search skills, especially the STAR interview technique.  Don’t know STAR?  I guarantee you every recruiter does.

I started my recruiting career with PepsiCo QTG (Quaker-Tropicana-Gatorade) and Wrigley in Chicago.  I recruited across all business functions like finance, accounting, marketing, HR, strategic planning, manufacturing, operations and R&D.  I was laid off by Wrigley after they were acquired by Mars.  That was tough.

In 2010 I moved to Vermont.  For the last 10 years I’ve been ridiculously happy and fulfilled by my work, and especially by career advising. “I’ve helped over 2,000 job seekers gain the skills to get the jobs they want.”

I work with job seekers from all over the country via Google Meet
